This month's featured Job Talk comes from our Giveaway Winner, Dan P. in Akron, Ohio.
"Well I had only been on the job about six months with a small department. I was one of five hired under President Carter's CETA Program. Say what you will, that guy got me my career.
Anyway, it was October and a very cold trick or treat weekend, freezing rain and snow. We got sent out on a field fire on a farm, we actually road the back step (old school). We got there freezing and it was going good behind the farmhouse out to the corn field.
Chief sent a couple of us to handle a lumber pile that was burning, my buddy took one side, I took the other. We were getting it when I looked around and he was gone.
I started looking where he last was and I hear him hollering down in a hole. The chief and a couple others came over and we got him out and backed off fast.
Well, he had fallen into the burned remains of the farms outhouse. He was covered in crap and soaked to the skivvies.
Chief made him ride on back of the tanker and we washed him down on the station ramp....after that he was known to always be s**tfaced.β
