Hero's Name: Daniel D.
My husband became a firefighter in 1995. It was his dream job. A few years into the job, him and another fireman rescued a 3 year old girl from a car fire. Of course the parents were very thankful, but my husband would keep in touch with them often and at Christmas would buy the girl a present. This lasted for many years until the girl was older.
In June of 2021 my husband had put in his 25 years and retired. In December of that year he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He kept himself so healthy that as the other firemen were having a breakfast of eggs and bacon etc., my husband would be eating his oatmeal every day. He fought for 2 1/2 years with this cancer, going through chemo and radiation, without complaining, but most of the time in pain. In July of 2024 he passed away.
At the wake a lady & her daughter came up to me and said, “You probably do not know who we are, but your husband rescued my daughter years ago in a car fire and I felt I needed to come and say goodbye”. I broke down in tears, such a nice gesture given to my husband. These firemen put there lives on the line everyday. For that woman and her daughter to come to my husbands wake to say thank you was priceless.
